Girls Play Sports (GPS) is a non-profit (501c3) organization dedicated to building leadership skills and confidence in girls through their participation in a wide variety of sports. GPS offers this program for communities/high schools to help introduce girls to a wide variety of sports, provide them with role models and emphasize pride in being a female athlete. This program is targeted towards girls before they arrive in middle school in order to strengthen positive feelings towards athletics, and before middle school influences begin to erode their perceptions about what girls are supposed to be and supposed to like.
Girls Play Sports After School Clinics
The GPS After School Clinics bring high school female sports ambassadors directly to the local area grade schools. The goals of the program are to build on the momentum of the Festival and introduce the girls to an even wider variety of sports over the course of the year. This program also builds a much stronger connection to the local high school athletic program. Each month, female sports ambassadors from two different sports visit the local grade schools and teach 4th and 5th grade girls about their sports. The sports are designed to be complimentary to one another and from different seasons. Over the course of the year, the 4th and 5th grade girls learn about and experience all of the different options that will be available to them at the high school level. This can be offered either as a free program or fee based program depending on how the community or school district wants to structure it.
BRING THE GPS AFTER SCHOOL CLINICS TO YOUR COMMUNITY: Girls Play Sports manages the scheduling, marketing, registrations, logistics and training. The community or high school provides the female student-athletes and list of local grade schools.
